Triumph Stag

Dodgy Paintwork

This is an ongoing work as and when I find time - that precious commodity, the lack of which causes many a  midlife crisis, and is not helped by too many hobbies and interests.

This section is about my Stag and related matters.

It was an impulse purchase - always the worst kind. I bought it in May 2007 because it was the right price and it sounded good - very, very good. I can see why the great J.C.  (Jeremy Clarkson to all you atheists out there!) loves a V8 so much. To be honest I was really looking for a good Triumph Dolomite Sprint - preferably in yellow - but this came along and it was only a mile and a half away from where I lived.

Its an early MK1, built at the end of 1970 and first registered in Feb 1971. Its White, Automatic (Borg Warner 35 gearbox), has the correct Triumph V8 engine. Its largely unmolested and unmodified and looks mostly original. It has had a restoration or two - the last at the end of the 1990's. Its had buckets of money thrown at it, as have most Stags I guess. I was attracted by the fact the it looked OK, went and had an MOT. My wife liked it because it went and I should just be able to drive it without having to do anything to it. How wrong can you be. So far:

New Front Wheel Bearings
Front Brake Pads
Tyres
New Driveshafts
Rear Brake Shoes & Springs
Exhaust Rubbers
Cylinder Heads, cams, valves etc.
Timing Chains
Radiator Hoses
Alternator
Distributor Cap, Points, Plugs and leads

Financially not as bad as it looks as I do all the work myself, but it does take up a lot of time, which was not the intention when I got it.

It still has lots of niggling little faults, all of which are forgiven when you squeeze the loud pedal and it surges away relentlessly with the magnificent sound of the V8 exhaust note in your ear!
